MOQ & Pricing

MOQ varies by foundry and casting complexity. Most Chinese foundries accept orders from 50-500 pieces for standard pump and valve castings. For simple parts with existing patterns, even 10-20 pieces may be possible. Complex geometries or parts requiring new tooling typically have higher minimums (200+ pieces). Unit prices typically range from $2-50 per piece for pump housings and valve bodies, depending on weight (0.5kg to 500kg), material (grey iron vs. stainless steel), complexity, and quantity. A typical 20kg grey iron pump housing in quantities of 200+ pieces costs approximately $15-35 per unit including basic machining. Request a quote with your specific drawings for accurate pricing.
Key price drivers: Material grade (grey iron is cheapest; stainless steel is 3-5x more expensive), part weight and complexity (heavier and more complex = higher unit price), casting process (sand casting is most economical; investment casting is premium), surface finish requirements (machined surfaces add cost), certifications required (API, CE, WRAS add documentation cost), and order quantity (economies of scale kick in above 500 pieces).
Usually tooling is quoted separately. For new pump housings, tooling typically costs $500-5,000 depending on complexity. If you own the pattern, you save this cost entirely. We recommend negotiating tooling ownership transfer in the contract — this way, if the foundry relationship ends, you take the tooling to your next supplier. For orders of 1,000+ pieces, tooling can often be amortized into the unit price to reduce upfront costs.

Quality & Certifications

Common certifications include: ISO 9001 (general quality management), API 6D or API 600 (for valve components in oil & gas), CE/PED (for EU market pressure equipment), WRAS (UK water regulations), and UL/FM (for fire protection systems). We manage the documentation process and ensure your foundry holds the required certifications for your target market.
Our quality protocol includes: (1) Material verification — confirm MTC with heat numbers, (2) Pattern approval — inspect first article before full run, (3) In-process inspection — check critical dimensions during production, (4) Dimensional report — CMM or go/no-go gauge verification, (5) Pre-shipment inspection — final visual and weight check. A Material Test Certificate (MTC) or Certificate of Conformance (CoC) documents the chemical composition, mechanical properties, and heat number of each melt. To verify: (1) Check that the material grade matches your spec, (2) Verify the heat/heat number is traceable to the specific batch of material used, (3) Cross-reference mechanical test results against standard values for that grade, (4) For critical applications, request third-party verification. Lead Time & Logistics

Standard lead time is 30-55 days from order confirmation to shipment: pattern/tooling approval (5-10 days if existing pattern available), production (15-25 days), finishing and machining (5-10 days), quality inspection (2-3 days), packaging (1-2 days). Sea freight adds 20-35 days depending on destination port. Air freight (5-7 days) is available for samples and urgent needs at premium cost.
Export packaging for pump and valve castings typically uses: (1) VCI anti-rust paper or coating for corrosion protection during ocean transit, (2) Steel or wooden banding to secure the shipment, (3) Wooden crates for heavy parts (>50kg), (4) Palletization for lighter items. We specify export-grade packaging in every order contract. Castings are heavy — ensure your freight forwarder accounts for weight when calculating shipping costs.

Materials & Casting Processes
